Flixmedia welcomes eBay to its global retailer network

The launch of eBay’s Certified Refurbished Program in 2020 came after eBay’s promise to evolve its refurbished e-commerce experiences. The program provides a new approach to shopping for consumer goods, helping shoppers discover inventory sold directly from the brands they love, whilst feeling confident about the quality assurance promised. Increased demand for refurbished products drove the program’s additional offering of brand partnerships, securing exclusive rights to inventory sold directly from manufacturers.  

New shopping behaviours

With changing consumer behaviours and increased demand for like-new products, eBay’s Certified Refurbished Program makes it easier for shoppers to access an array of top brand products, at a lower price, in one trusted experience. Top brands saw a 170% year-over-year surge in sales during Cyber weekend in 2020 which was partially attributed to the introduction of the refurbished program.  

The increased demand for refurbished products demonstrates a drastic shift in consumer behaviour. This is supported by a survey that reveals (US) shoppers are seeking new ways to shop for gifts. The survey stated that 62% of respondents had considered buying refurbished electronics as gifts, whilst 84% of respondents were open to being gifted with them.  

Almost half (47%) of the respondents had been gifted a refurbished item in the past, up from 32% in 2020. The survey highlights how the stigma of buying second-hand products has been removed and, indeed, some respondents declared their choice to purchase refurbished items was due to shopping sustainably.  

Brands using eBay’s Certified Refurbished Program

In addition to eBay’s refurbished offering, the digital marketplace also provides small sellers with a resale opportunity. Sellers who meet the requirements of the manufacturer, or are authorised sellers, are able to sell brands’ refurbished products.  Sennheiser, Philips, Acer and Makita are some of the brand leaders using eBay to sell their refurbished products. Acer’s Nitro 5 laptop is a best-selling and high-priced item that Acer lists on eBay’s marketplace, along with De’Longhi and its refurbished, 5-star rated Cafe Corso Bean to Cup Coffee machine.
